Welcome to Morgan Family Heritage!

This is a family blog dedicated to sharing the rich history of the Morgan family, specifically the life and times of my great-great grandparents, John MORGAN and Mary Elvins FAULL, and William MORGAN and Hannah PENFOLD.

This story follows our ancestors from their early days in England through to their emigration and settlement in New Zealand. From farmers to politicians, family homesteads, and two world wars in between, our family history has both highlights and tragedy. Much of this story originates from the personal written accounts of John MORGAN.

I am excited to share this journey with you and hope you enjoy exploring my family's heritage. This is a very much work-in-progress project, new material will be added regularly.

Enjoy.

My
Story

My father, Robert Row (Bob) MORGAN, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday 4 June 2021. He was 89, three months shy of his 90th birthday.

Dad had always been very proud of his family heritage and origins as early settlers in the Whanganui district. As kids, on the journeys back to the home town, we were often told (and re-told!) of places and people we could make no connection with. At the time it was all very boring stuff, going in one ear and out the other.

I am a fourth-generation 'Morgan' to be born here in New Zealand. Recently, I had a need to understand my belonging and the story of how the Morgan family came to be here. Unfortunately, my only connection to my heritage-past was lost with the passing of dad.

Embarking on this journey to document the Morgan Family Heritage is both exciting and challenging. There are many gaps in our stories. I am hopeful that by connecting through this site, Morgan descendants can contribute to filling in the missing pieces, creating a shared resource accessible to everyone.

This work is dedicated to my father and his brother and sisters - most of whom are now sadly long gone. Their past research forms the basis of material used.

The Morgan Story is configured into two distinct sections.

Morgan Heritage looks into our ancestors, particularly descendants of Edmund MORGAN and his wife Miriam COOMBES.

Military Service spotlights members of the wider Morgan family who served during two world wars and other conflicts, both in New Zealand and abroad.

My 'research' journey has been rewarding in many forms. One of which is discovering and connecting with long-lost relatives. The following website is run by Paul Roberts, who hails from the Honeyfield line - Honeyfield's are Morgan cousins who journeyed to New Zealand along with John and William Morgan in 1850.
